Carradice Bingley in "Meadow" Harris tweed

Post by rogerzilla »

Bit of a long shot. Does anyone have one and now thinks it's tasteless?

That, unfortunately, is a Barley! The only new Bingley in that pattern is in a US shop and would cost about £150 with shipping, duty and VAT.

Would this one suit you?
It looks like a Bingley in a red/ green tartan Harris tweed,

“CARRADICE HARRIS TWEED RED/ GREEN TARTAN SADDLETOOL BAG, EXCELLENT CONDITION”

Much cheaper than your US sourced one @£50!

Or the exact item from Japan for £66 at 1st glance:

I’ve recently ordered something from Japan and was impressed at the speed of delivery & delighted it passed through customs without stoppage or charge!

My chum has a venerable old titfer made out of Harris Tweed - proper job - and we all think it drole until it starts to rain when the shoe is on the other foot, said chum staying dry while those topped with less doughty material get wet...

I see Carradice are selling 'seconds' of tweed Bingley's in their ebay shop at the moment, £20/25 inc free delivery, they don't mention the colour, three different tweeds.

With the Carradice Bingley in "Meadow" Harris tweed advertised on a Japanese website, I can't read Japanese either; but my browser (Chrome) offers a seemingly convincing translation of the webpage...
I wonder if we have any CTC members resident in Japan?

I was hoping a Meadow one might come up, but it seems that's the lot. I might have to go for the standard green one, which is the same base colour and has the same dark brown straps.

I've just had a play on the Rakuten website. I can't read Japanese but it was easy to guess the button to add the item to the basket, and then go to checkout, but English is not offered as an alternative anywhere. However, you can use Google translate to navigate the form, eg the first item is 楽天会員ログイン -- Rakuten member login, so you can then skip to はじめての方・楽天会員登録(無料)されていない方 -- First-time users / Rakuten members who have not registered (free of charge). That's as far as I went, so goodness knows what happens when you give a non-Japanese address and payment method. UK credit and debit cards are reasonably widely accepted in Japan, eg hotels and restaurants.

I tried Google Translate; it seems Rakuten is just an aggregator for this product, providing links to four shops, none of which actually claim to have stock. So as useless as trying to use Amazon, then!
