Measuring Blood Pressure
Re: Measuring Blood Pressure
Yes, TC, I appreciate all you say.
Not driven the car this week, though I will be tomorrow.
Not a drop has passed my lips since about 8pm last night, and won't do until this evening, and it won't be a great deal either. Even then, our water supply is part of the process ............. pubs closed until further notice and it's been 16hrs or more since the supply was interrupted due to some major defect or another.
As for the alcohol/blood pressure link, I'm not convinced that it applies much in my case, though it does a bit. I'm sure there is a strong link for heavy regular drinkers who are overweight unfit people.

Re: Measuring Blood Pressure
Hi,
Your age and current fitness?
Last year I am down to 33% of my normal exercise I am 63.
Spoke to GP yesterday.
He said "I am between a rock and a hard place" !
1) I stick with my current meds.
2) I go back on my previous meds.
Both give chronic side effects which put my cycling to about 40 % of my past endurance.
3) Or - come off meds altogether and risk heart attacks and strokes!
I did that for five weeks till my BP went up........Result was that I did some of my best rides / exercise in the last 3 years.
1,2 or 3.........................its my decision.....................
I know you are older than me and probably not at fit at the moment.

Re: Measuring Blood Pressure
Been very busy and have done some heavy lifting and shifting today.
Loading a 45ft container with hundreds of boxes, and furniture, mattresses, wheel chairs, and bikes. All bound for Gambia.
Started at 08:00 this morning and home at 14:00. Lit the fire, and sitting down with a beer ........... or three or four.
Mrs Mick F is part of the team for Keen4Gambia and she and Lead Lady will be going out next month some time to meet the container and distribute the stuff. The two of them will be away for five weeks perhaps, so I'll be home alone .............. with the dog, three cats, and the parrot!

https://keen4gambia.uk/about
Came back from loading the container and rather knackered. Sat down after lighting the fire, and measured my BP.
121 over 72.
My main issue, I think, is not doing enough hard work be it cycling or lifting and shifting.
I really need to get the miles in on the bike(s) .......... but life gets in the way. I was doing 100miles a week, but now it's more like 10.
Not getting any younger of course.
69 in Autumn just gone, so I'm staring 70 in the face.

Re: Measuring Blood Pressure
Some exercise rather than none is good for the cardiovascular system and tends to lower blood pressure in people with high blood pressure.
I don't think that much is known about any additional effect of "hard work" over mild to moderate exercise.
Or about its effect on the type of labile hypertension that you have described.

Figures for this evening, and yes, I have been drinking.
Did it three times over the last hour.

Re: Measuring Blood Pressure
Hi,
It's had an effect on lowering my blood pressure.
But I also find working on the car and working outside in the garden does reap benefits.
I've managed to squeeze in 10 hours on the bike this week.Mick F wrote: ↑22 Jan 2022, 4:03pm

Re: Measuring Blood Pressure
Low diastolic pressure (e.g. below 70) is not particularly healthy either unfortunately, it means your heart might not be getting enough blood, as diastolic pressure is important for perfusion of the heart.

I don't think there is a brand of BP monitor called "Omicron".Tangled Metal wrote: ↑17 Jun 2015, 10:26am omicron ones are actually quite cheap I think at argos and other places.
But there is one called "Omron". I have one.
That post was from 2015.
It's now 2022, and there is a variant of a novel virus, which was unknown in 2015, called omicron.
That's some spooky prescience there.
Re: Measuring Blood Pressure
140 over 73 this morning followed by 142 over 78.
That seems fine to me.

Re: Measuring Blood Pressure
When I saw the doc on Wednesday, he gave me a form to fill in with two readings twice a day with my BP results - 20 results. He wanted me to do it for five days. AM and PM.
The five days were up yesterday evening with 118 over 71, and 120 over 71 as the final pair.
Handed the form in at the (ill)health centre this morning.
They wanted me to add up the figures and give an average.
Average over the five days is/was 132.5 over 80.3
Just done it again randomly and out of interest.
128 over 74
My blood pressure is stress related, as I've always said.
Past couple of days, I've been laid back and "cool" so they are fine.
