You've probably heard his work even if you don't know his name.

All the things in the link are a long time before I was here.I don’t watch much old TV or listen to BBC radio!
I doubt I have seen anything he has written.

The young folk of today! When I were a lad...

The Four Yorkshiremen was one of his, originally for the Frost Report but later popularised by Monty Python. Surely you've come across that?

Possibly but I couldn’t swear to it.
I have absolutely no idea who most of the comedy people are in the links!

Fair enough. But for those of us who enjoy comedy panel shows on Radio 4 or who have been watching TV comedy for 50 years or more, he has been making us laugh for all that time, usually through the voices of others.

Lets face it, if you are more than 50 you have been priveliged to have lived through a golden age of comedy. I think we started entering the dark ages with the pathetic bunch of foul mouthed stand ups that began appearing more recently. The super sensitive 'woke' brigade is further damaging our ability to poke fun at ourselves.

Exit stage left....

Re foul-mouthed stand ups, as I think I've already posted Barry Cryer began his rise to fame as a stand-up comedian at Leeds City Varieties when it was a seedy dive and then went on to similar but greater things in London. One of the reminiscences I've read in the last few days has been about when he was heckled by John Lennon asking if it was satire, being put down by BC with
No, this is nightclub filth. You need to get out more.

I think comedy changes over time some of the 60's and '70's stuff looks dated and downright derogatory toward certain sections of society, women in particular, though some of it is still very funny.

The funniest man alive,Billy Connelly, has probably the foulest mouth for the past 50+years.

What's the 'woke brigade' doing wrong?
