+1 on THE VN frames. As far as Ti goes they are up there with the best

Hope all goes well, please let us know.Johnno260 wrote: ↑11 Feb 2022, 10:49am Sorry to necro an old thread.
I have found a really helpful localish store with a Van Nic in my size according to the VN site.
It's a large or 57cm Ventus, the store have been more than accommodating with my never ending questions.
I got to have a look tomorrow morning, I'm really excited and nervous at the same time.
AND, if it doesn't fit you buy it anyway - pop it on the wall, they are a right eyeful.
Re: Ti Bikes
I've had my VN Yukon for 14 years and it's done countless miles. The frame still looks as new with, it has to be said, virtually no maintenance. That's the beauty of ti Best money I've spent on cycle stuff by a mile.Slowtwitch wrote: ↑11 Feb 2022, 1:19pm +1 on THE VN frames. As far as Ti goes they are up there with the best

The VN are getting really hard to find second hand now, I hope that's because they are so good no one wants to part with them!

Re: Ti Bikes
I have a Lapierre late 90's MTB Ti bike, I heard at the time it was VN making the frames, does anyone have intel on which manufacturers they made frames for?
Re: Ti Bikes
Not selling mine and I’ve advised cycling son, on my death, to keep the VN for himself and sell the rest.Slowtwitch wrote: ↑12 Feb 2022, 7:50am The VN are getting really hard to find second hand now, I hope that's because they are so good no one wants to part with them!

Thank you for bumping it. OT, but I’ve never understood why zombie threads are almost universally feared and despised. With some exceptions, digging them up is harmless, can be interesting, and arguably helpful. Why else keep them around - just for the search engines?
That said, I wish VN still made a model with horizontal dropouts for us singlespeed freaks.

Re: Ti Bikes
I suppose it what suits each person, for me a carbon bike scares me, and I felt it’s overkill for my level of riding, I’m not judging others who buy carbon as it’s has obvious merits.Slowtwitch wrote: ↑13 Feb 2022, 8:30amI'm quite jealous of that! I've bought a carbon disc bike, and am now sort of regretting it...
My main thing was longevity and comfortable ride.
Enjoy your carbon I’m sure it’s a beauty and makes you smile, and that’s all that matters at the end of the day

My Ti experience is limited to a short ride on a Diamond Back Axis TT in 1994. Does it "twang" over bumps like steel? I don't like carbon, except for the weight, because it feels dead.
Re: Ti Bikes
Nothing wrong with carbon. My second favourite bike (from the VN Yukon) in a Cervelo S3. Carbon, aero and a million miles from ti, but it's light, fast and great for anything under 100 miles, beyond which it becomes a bit uncomfortable On a summer's day it's a blast, but it needs to be coddled like an infant, unlike the VN, which is neglected yet still what I rely on for longer and multi-day rides.

Me too.sussex cyclist wrote: ↑13 Feb 2022, 7:33am That said, I wish VN still made a model with horizontal dropouts for us singlespeed freaks.
Look at ebay completed listings re Van Nicholas. A VN Yukon, single speed, 120 OLN, horizontal dropouts sold last week. I've never seen a VN frame like that before but it looked a beauty.
Due to me being a 'hum/ha' merchant I missed it......I deserved all that I got.
