What to call a not an e bike?
What to call a not an e bike?
To me there are e bikes and "normal" bikes. I guess e bike are becoming more "normal", so I might have to change my adjective at some point.
One of my work suppliers has used the guitar analogy, in an article introducing a new staff member; -
"the team offers acoustic and electric bikes for all disciplines".
To get the acoustics, do I sit on a low stool and pluck the spokes like a harp, or tape on some beer mats to rub on the spokes?

A bike,or bicycle is a bike.
An E-bike is a variation of a bike, not the other way around, and I very much doubt there are anywhere near the same amount of E-bikes as there are bikes on the planet.I don't foresee that changing any time soon
So an non-E-bike is a bike.

I call them muscle powered bikes but I doubt that the term will catch on.

I'm glad I didn't have to write that first, but I will support the view!

My daughters food bank delivery service uses both types and have adopted the 'acoustic' vs 'electric' to make the distinction when asking for a bike.
Imagine the fun I'm having, I ride a 1999 'acoustic' recumbent emblazoned with the name 'BikeE'

Oy! Stop all this Vanilla-ist badmouthing. You can't beat Vanilla. (I bet you're some pretentious and quite frankly inconsequential salted caramel with mungbean jobbie)

Isn't it fascinating how a word that was once associated with being exotic and delicately fragrant could come to mean plain and standard?

OED records use in 1906 and 1910, apparently in contrast to bikes with engines.
I wondered if it had originated when bikes were pushed rather than pedalled by the rider.
