Top pull / bottom pull pulley name.

Post by Jupestar »

Looking for the name, for a pulley wheel for the FD cable, the cable comes down from the top for a top pull FD, but I want to install a down pull FD. I seem to have a frame boss (M4 frame hole) in the correct position to do this, but I don’t know the name of the pulley wheel part. SJS have one but it designed for the problem solver clamp on version. It takes an M5 bolt which could work with an washer, but was looking for more options to direct mount. Ideally M4. Knowing the name of the piece would help, as Google pulley wheels just returns jockey wheels…

Cable guide pulley ?
Google comes up with some Sturmey-Archer ones, clamp-on in 1 1/8'',e.g.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231739929081
maybe remove the strap to use with your frame fitting.

M5 appears to be the standard thread size for these pulleys.

Thanks all, will give the Planet X one a try.

Wasn’t sure what it was as the description was not clear. by the look of it, it has a piece to protect the frame from the rotating wheel. Which any DIY solution would probably not get.

Planet X one fits great. Had to use a smaller bolt and the location of the braze on, makes it a absolute pig to get an hex key too…. But looks like it going to work…

I’m also debating the merits of the outer case. Is it really needed and could it just cause further cable erosion by trapping moisture in it….

Now to find a FD clamp for a 30mm seat tube… (I suspect a 28.6 will work, or some shims - but I cannot find my 28.6)… For now I put on a 31.8 around some inner tube.. I know it won’t hold…
