I'm sure with some different materials and equipment choices the weight could be trimmed a lot.

Personally i think something more akin to a trailer tent is the way to go, i've just not worked out the details yet!
Convention? what's that then?

There is a cycling trailer tent on the market.

I’ll see if I can post a link.

A quick Google suggests that nobody can find anything nice to say about it!

Yeah i was aware of that but once again its heavy and with 4 wheels it must drag badly!

I'm still trying to understand what is the problem that this solves.

Don't like tents? Fair enough, stay in hotels / B&Bs / YHA etc.

I suspect there is no intention to "solve a problem".

Rather ask:

Is it fun ?

If the answer is 'yes' then that is problem solved.

I'm thinking more of giving ageing bones etc an alternative to a tent whilst still having similar (mayve even more) flexibility as tent camping - oh and staying drier!
I found this guy on U tube, some great stuff at some handsome prices as well as more basic self builds - hours of fun! Its in German, i watch it without the sound as its quite self explanatory.

Pulling 75kg of thing with a bike is rarely fun though.

FWIW I also think that weight is excessive.

I'm stuggling to find where the fun is in towing a highsided trailer weighing even half the weight of the 74kg of the one in the OP,the comfort of the "caravan" is grossly outweighed by the drudge of dragging it behind all day.
Perhaps I'm just too sensible or just lacking a sense of humour
