Candles Instead Of Electricity

Post by NATURAL ANKLING »

Hi,

https://www.quora.com/Is-it-cheaper-to- ... ng?share=1

"Is it cheaper to use candles instead of electricity for homelighting?"

"A standard 100 watt incandescent light bulb (I am aware that LEDs are far more efficient than these) emits 1600 lumens of light, and has a luminous efficacy (how good at producing light something) of 16 lumens per watt.

A candle, on the other hand, emits only about 13 lumens, having a luminous efficacy of 0.16 lumens per watt."

Hi,
Only looked at this because my partners work friend I said that she intends to use candles in a holder rather than lightbulbs.

She is worried about the cats knocking the candle over, Hence a holder (I imagine it's a enclosed type).

To me this sounds like more like stupidity rather than panic.
if you've not read the link I posted up post, then if you were to just use one candle when you needed 13 for equivalent to 100 W bulb, it will still cost you seven Times as much if you are using a candle instead of 100 W incandescent bulb.

Let alone using modern LEDs.
Then there is Covering your ceilings with soot and of course the high risk of setting your house a light.

I did not check all the details so it's possible it was based on old electricity prices?

Any similar data for a Tilley lamp?

Yes.

The reduction in fires and the deaths and other harms that they cause is one of many improvements in modern life. And it's still improving:
