Re: Record attempt scheduled

Post by NATURAL ANKLING »

Hi,
When I got into endurance cycling I ended up using two speedos to record my mileage.
I eventually worked out there was nothing wrong with the Speedo but I just didn't know where I'd actually been, I could not remember of course.
Now I use a Speedo on the bike and a satnav in my rucksack, to record relatively accurate distances.
This is only for training purposes.
I'm still not happy with discrepancies with the Speedo and the satnav.
I find that the satnav doesn't always return same mileage for identical rides.
Nor does the Speedo, but I think this is about auto stop start in the way to record total time.

So you can't really trust any device that well, all you can do is carry a spare and check your miles with several online course creators.

I normally end up adjusting my bicycle Speedo (old style wheel revolution recorder) wheel input To read half a percent less than any other device.
I just like to know I've done the distance without exaggerating even a small amount.

When I'm out with other riders I never believe anything they tell me about their recorded distance, I just don't want to tell them that the figure is further than mine

Garmins are great… until you're messing with submenus on the side of a hill because one of the sensors has decided to disconnect and won't reconnect.

Is that verified? I did wonder if/when she’d have another go.

If she does reach your part of the world and if you are at the roadside, give her an extra cheer from me. (I'll be celebrating a personal milestone not for from the Edinburgh - London route)

5 min over that distance is a bit of a tight margin…

It’s very tight isn’t it but all that’s needed to take the record. I would imagine you’ve to keep on or ahead of schedule all the time. Soon as you’re 30 minutes down then you must question if you can ever recover it.
Looking at @24hrs graph there’s a big improvement needed

Don't forget that pacing is all-important. If you get an hour ahead by half-way, that may mean you're toast with 200 miles to go.
VERY easy to lose 2 hours once you've blown.

If it was easy to ride with 2 hours in hand for the unexpected, everyone would do it!
