Tern Joe D24 derailleur hanger

Post by AlanP »

Hi,
It looks like my Tern Joe D24 folder has fallen over once too often and the derailleur hanger is slightly bent.
I'm trying to locate a replacement part but Tern themselves are not a lot of help.
In my online searches I've come across a D24 replacement hanger, which appears to be a standard format - does anyone know if this is the one for the Joe or is the 'D24' in the name just a coincidence?

How bent is the hanger? They do survive some slight.modest straightening.

Re your D24. If you have a catalogue photo of the hanger in question, compare it to your hanger (you might have to remove the hanger to get a good comparison). I am not familiar with the hanger(s) in question, but you need to compare carefully, as often there are hangers that look very similar but are not quite the same.

If you have a local Tern dealer they might know.
Moore Large (Tern UK trade distributor) does not seem to list hangers.
In case you need more hanger choice......; -

My main problem is that I (and the bike) are in Crete and we're a bit short of Tern dealers here. In fact there's not much of a cycling culture here at all and any dealers are mainly box shifters. The second and more major problem is that getting things from the UK to Greece is mow a major minefield of VAT charges, customs charges, delayed mail etc - thank you Brexit :x
I'll have to get the hanger off the bike and check it against any pictures on-line, maybe I can pick one up on my next UK visit

There's a good chance you'll find a serial number on the hanger, often only discernible once you remove it from the frame. You can then type the numbers into a search box on one of the specialist derailleur hanger websites - https://www.gear-hanger.co.uk/

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll have to bite the bullet & get the hanger off the bike to see if I can find any more details. The reason I've been avoiding this one is that I converted the Tern to an eBike courtesy of Woosh (again, before Brexit f*cked my life up). With minimal tools I managed to widen the rear forks with the aid of 10mm threaded rod, some nuts and paranoia to take the new rear wheel - I couldn't believe how much the forks sprung without deforming. The gist of it is that I managed to splay the forks but 'just enough' to force (with a fair amount of grunting) the new wheel in and I've not had to remove it since. I've been dreading getting a puncture out on the road, but so far I've been lucky. Oh well, I've been fixing my own bikes for the past 60 years so, no worries eh? :-)

I got the old hanger off and managed to straighten it but at the same time I checked it out on the web and it looks like it actually is the D24

Check the shape of the back too. I know of at least 1 popular hanger profile that looks identical to another from the front but the two have quite different cut-outs behind.
The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.

Doesn't help with your delivery issues, but try CH White in Malmesbury.
