Bike Bus
I've not heard of a bike bus (in this context) but I know some Local Authorities have set up 'walking buses' to encorage walking to school (by overcoming perceived parental concerns about the supposed dangers of doing it the way we did). It might be worth seeing whether any bike buses have been set up by LAs (eg checking County Council websites or speaking to your LA (they may know of others that do it).
I knew this rang a bell. I read about one in the local paper:

But, it's for adult commuters (not sure the benefit on this particular road - but if it gives more people confidence to commute by bike - - ) so don't think they'll be any useful contacts.

Re: Bike Bus
Hi
I'm involved in the Aire Valley Bike Bus - http://www.airevalleybikebus.org.uk. I'm happy to talk about our experiences on the bike bus, what do you want to know?
The other key initiative if you're looking at children getting to school is the Sustrans Safe Routes to School, which I think is still going.
There is someone doing a bike bus for a children at St Matthew's Primary School, in Bishopbriggs, Scotland:

If the link dies
"The scheme is backed by East Dunbartonshire Council, Sustrans (a leading UK sustainable transport charity), Cycling Scotland, Strathclyde Police, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, and local firms Solid Rock Cycles and Viewfield Galleries."
