SRAM Shifter with Shimano Brakes

I have a SRAM shifter laying around from my old bike. And the one I use regularly I think needs a new shifter. So I was thinking how about I use the SRAM shifter with my Shimano brakes. Will it be compatible?

Hi. Nobody has any chance of giving you a good answer to this unless you provide information about exactly which SRAM shifter and exactly which Shimano brakes you have.
