Wheal Wheel Weal We'll

Post by Mick F »

Walked the doggie during the week past Wheal Josiah.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devon_Great_Consols

Wheal is a mine complex.
Wheel is a wheel ............. of course. :D
Weal is a wound.
We'll is short for "we will".

Are there any more?

Next, can anyone write a single sentence including them all? :D

Probably from an episode of Poldark:

“We’ll need to act quickly: there’s trouble a Wheal Grummage where the hoist wheel is stuck fast, and Amos Polpen has a terrible weal all down his face from catching the rope. Summon the men!”

“Nay. Sir, ‘twould do no good. They’m all out fetching up that whale from the beach, wailing and groaning’ the lot of ‘em, trying to find a way to weigh it, when the scales is already loaded with last week’s whey.”

“Can’t they use the whale-weigh station the usual way?”

“Why, no, ‘it’s all closed up waiting for the Woyal Twain to thunder by!”

“The Woyal Twain, what, on a Wednesday?”

“Wednesday? It was Whit Monday when I woke weary with want to wet weather and woe-filled wife.”

Etc…

Well done! :D :D

On my walk with the doggie, we went past a sign pointing to Wheal Russel wheel pit on our way to Morwellham Quay and back.
Obviously something to do with a steam driven wheel. I'd like to go that way again maybe and hang a left into the path to it.

Please note, that Morwellham is pronounce Morwell Ham as it's the mapmakers getting it wrong, hence visitors pronounce it wrong ......... as morwellam.

There's Morwell Rocks, Morwell Farm, Morwell Barton, Morwell House and Morwell Woods, to name a few.
(I'll get off my hobby-horse now!)

Also, please note on the map, that there's Hare Wood, and Harewood Farm.

Don’t they parade them round your way in some sort of pagan-inspired folk dance?

Wee'll work for invisible writing.

Weal also means prosperity. And collective welfare and the res publica, as in commonweal.

Walking the dog later, and we'll go past Wheal Russel.
A few days ago, we went past Wheal Fanny, Wheal Maria, and Wheal Josiah.

You could go for a "double homophone score" and take the dog to Wheal Rose (Rows, Roes, Rhos etc........).

I've cycled through Wheal Rose - not far from Skinners Bottom - some time back, but it's a bit of a walk from here! :D
