CUK recognition

Spotted this notice on a wall at my favourite cafe. I wasn’t aware of this accreditation. Does Cycling UK publish a list of these places so we may peruse, consume widely and be more the happier for it?

I'm probably being dim, or maybe my browser security has blocked part of the page, but where on there is the list of places?

Those that take the money are promised
Increased visibility and recognition by listing your business on our experience county maps exposing your business to anyone planning their cycle trip.
I can’t find ‘experience county maps' on CUK site and assumed it was because I’m not a member? Or perhaps three months isn’t long enough to come to fruition.

Seems it's only for Kent, Cornwall & Norfolk (those county councils are also part of the European "Experience" programme).

Here's the map with cycle-friendly businesses for Norfolk (I singled that one out for mjr):

https://experience.cyclinguk.org/norfolk.

. . . and here's the page linking to all three areas:

https://experience.cyclinguk.org/

This wasn't straight-forward to find. I'm wondering how or if I would have ever known about it or searched for it if it wasn't for this thread.

(Edited because I omitted a link).

You might remember a thread about mapping on the Cycling UK website a couple of months back - viewtopic.php?t=153930 . This is all part of that; I've been working with Cycling UK to bring a bit of cycle.travel-powered mapping to the site. It's early days and there's still a few kinks to iron out, so I think the "obscurity" is kind of deliberate at the moment (but the Cycling UK people can jump in and say more if they want!).

Thanks for referencing that thread, Richard - I managed to miss it first time around. Very interesting. Do you think that there might be a chance of this being widened to other areas, by CUK if not by EXPERIENCE?

Thanks for this feedback, Richard. Is this the mapping you refer to and is the intention that the locations of the accredited businesses will be added? (The location of the thread photo, Twelveheads, is shown)

That's the old mapping - that's just plain vanilla OpenStreetMap. The new one is much closer to cycle.travel's style (in particular, the "vector tiles" implementation used in the c.t mobile app), so it has contours, hillshading, better symbology for cycle paths/bridleways/etc., waymarked cycle routes, and so on.

I confess I'm not sure how widely the Cycle-Friendly Places scheme will be rolled out but I'll point the relevant people in the direction of this thread!

In terms of extending the project, funding is everything. The Cantti Way and Rebellion Way are also products of the Experience project funding and possibly some aspects of the North Downs Way Riders Route relaunch.

Aspects of Cycling Friendly Places have been integrated with those projects, with Cycling UK Officers actively seeking engagement frm local businesses; "We're creating a new route for people to cycle, they'll be popular. Cyclists will need feeding, watering, places to stay. Do you want to sign up to our Cycle Friendly Places scheme? We have grants available to help."

I'd anticipate Cycling UK will bid for future opportunities to deliver similar green tourism projects as they are put out to tender.
