I thought all GRX was Hydraulic. I could be wrong.

I run 4720 (hydraulic) shifters to Shimano SLX post mount hydraulic calipers and they work fine.

Going to depend also on the front, but with a double front, the GS version of the 4700 RD gives you official max 34t. So it will probably work on 36t as long as you don't push the front limits as well.

ah yes, the GRX levers seem to be hydraulic. That'll explain why they're much more expensive than the Tiagra 4700 levers. Tiagra it is then.

The GRX 400 RD can go to 36t so might as well go with that as it hopefully it should work with the XT-M771-10

Your lever-mech-cassette combo all looks good to me:

The Ultegra BB has a smaller diameter bearing housing than the Tiagra version.
Needs an adapter if using a 'normal' BB tool.:-
Whatever the size of bearing I have had better service from Ultegra than Tiagra BBs. Just my experience; although Ultegra is a higher level groupset. Perhaps it has better seals? My current one has done over 20,000 miles. The previous one managed 16,000. Tiagra was up to 5,000 on a Titanium frame. But you buy whatever you like.
It does need an adapter - one is included with the BB.

Not always. Mine did but not from some places.

audaxer wrote: 2 Feb 2023, 2:00pm thanks for the levers tip. The brakes are Hayes CX Expert. No complaints whatsoever, just getting difficult to find replacement pads for them as they're no longer made. Prefer to keep the disc brakes cable operated. If I can push to the cost of the GRX levers I might just do that if they will work with the cable operated CX Experts.

Waiting to hear back on whether the 4700/GRX rear derailleur will work with the Shimano Deore XT M771 10 Speed Cassette 11-36 for a truly low gear touring experience! Currently have 11-34 with the 4600 levers.
I run an 11-36 10 speed cassette on one of our tandems with 4700 gears with no problems.
