Shimano Tiagra SL-4603 10 x 3 flat bar shifters or compatible shifters

Post by Grumpyoldbiker »

I want to convert my 2012 Galaxy from drops to flat riser bars, ideally without replacing too many parts.

These are now quite hard to get hold of at a reasonable price from a UK supplier, and many websites seem to give confusing information

If you use the search function there are several threads about drops to flat bar conversions. Front mech shifting can be problematic.
Here's one of many threads to get started.

I have found these on Ebay:

Has anybody used these Microshift SL-R760-3 10 speed triple Xpress Road Flat Bar Shifters with Shimano 4603/4600 derailleurs?

They are specified as compatible with Shimano Road.

Shimano opened a can of worms when they described components for hybrid bikes as being road compatible. The front mech cages were sized to change over common road size large chainrings hence the road implication. The mechs however had MTB cable pull to operate with flat bar shifters which were MTB cable pull.
Caveat Emptor.

Thanks RJB

Just to clarify.

First I made a typo in the 3rd line of my last post it should have read "4603/4600" (now corrected)

Secondly on the issue of stated compatibility with Shimano Road, I was quoting the Microshift description of these shifters, not Shimano:
https://www.microshift.com/models/sl-r760-3-bk/

Thanks Dagcyclist

I have now ordered the Microshift shifters, following confirmation from the seller that they are compatible.

I might take you up on your offer if they don't work.
