Just to confirm for anyone that's interested, I'm quite happy now that buying one of these fixed all my problems:
https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/oversize- ... mc=8402831
I tried an adjustable stem, and still wasn't happy with the shortest possible reach that had to offer.
This one seems just perfect though, and the drop feels just right.
Thanks again all for your input anyway.
Why can't a get a secure grip of my new hoods?

Excellent news!!! Really glad you have got a position that works for you Doff. It's great you have persevered ...I am a firm believer in making the bike fit you rather than the other way round!!doffcocker wrote: ↑15 Mar 2023, 4:44pm Just to confirm for anyone that's interested, I'm quite happy now that buying one of these fixed all my problems:

Re: Why can't a get a secure grip of my new hoods?
Thanks folks.
I feel far more in control of the bike when not having to lean far forward to have my hands on the brake levers.
I realise there are "costs" involved having a more upright posture but I only ever really feel comfortable when I'm "on top of" the hoods so to speak, as opposed to behind them.

That's brought the bars closer to you... by about how much?
Any other changes?
Thanks
