Replace gear cable

Post by rsgardner »

I am replacing the front gear cable on my Whyte Malvern bike for the first time.
Foolishly I did not make a note of where the old cable was threaded on the mechanism before it goes in the anchor bolt. Can anyone advise please? (I don't do a lot of bike repairs, as you can probably tell, but can normally do basic brake and gear stuff - just regret not taking a before photo on this occasion!)
Any help very gratefully received.

Have tried to show the mechanism here. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Yvvb7h ... sp=sharing

Can you tell us which derailleur? Or the model and year of the bike? There will be an instruction sheet available. The picture isn't too clear.

I see the front mech is badged as Acera. This is a Shimano diagram for an Acera derailleur with cable running down the seat tube. You will see it goes straight to the fixing bolt with no turns or deviations. Hope this helps. You might have to move the mech into position to get access to the Allen key bold head.
