Anyone seen anything like this before!?

Post by burnsie »

Saw the owner riding this through our village few weeks back.. thought what happens when he stops? Saw him few minutes later turning at junction and wondered about such a manoeuvre on a bike like that. 😳😳

Tall bikes have been around for decades if not a century or so. Here's a film about the hows, whys and so on:

You won't catch me on one though.

Your tall bike pic is of Karl and Scott, they'd ridden up from Lands End. That can't have been long before they were forced to bail through a serious mechanical issue on Scott's machine (the yellow one).

Yes that’s right I rode with them from Sth of Lockerbie up to Moffat.

I thought I recognised the green tall bike...
This is another shot of Karl negotiating the underpass beneath the A184 at Heworth on Tyneside. One of those times when a helmet could be useful (don't start!)

I did my share of guiding too, meeting them as they crossed the Clifton Suspension Bridge and after a stop at Sustrans we continued out of Bristol to Stoke Gifford and we went our seperate ways on a bridge over the M4.

Shimano have, or used to have, an annual employees' day where their staff would present similar wacky creations they had cooked up.

There were a couple on our Sternfahrt. Page: https://www.adfc-sternfahrt.org. These pictures are from the 2023 gallery of Ulrich Pegelow. There's another rider who has an even taller machine but no photo. We also had a penny-farthing (ordinary) rider.

I am NOT a cyclist. I enjoy riding a bike for utility, commuting, fitness and touring on tout terrain Rohloff, Brompton M3 and Wester Ross 354 plus a Burley Travoy trailer.
