I don’t know about ‘aspire to’, but I have a couple of Dawes, both in 531 frame & forks.
‘83 Galaxy is the ‘sensible’ bike; mudguards and rack, randonneur bars and lower gearing.
‘86 Renown is the ‘silly’ bike; bare, spare and with higher gearing.
Having ridden ‘30’s ‘scaffolding’, ‘gas pipe’, aluminium, aluminium/carbon and suspension frames, I still prefer the 531 frames. The sensible bike just took me round the ‘tour of the moors’ (Darlington-Saltburn-Scarborough-York-Northallerton-Darlington) without a hitch; the silly bike gets a sweat on and whooshes down hills. The best part is I don’t have to pay a fortune for consumables, and they laugh at crashes (white rabbit, white rabbit, white rabbit).

Re: Steel frames
This is my current aspirational frame
I'm not sure why I quite need another 26" wheeled bicycle especially as it will be equipped with the usual front and rear rack, pull back bars, dynamo lighting and mudguards...
And no doubt, my partner will raise the same question, only louder... and expect an answer..
The only one I can think of at the moment, is that building another bike is a very good way of using up all the spare bike bits which float around the shed...
..due to the usual issues with time and 'other-things-which-have-to-be-done-first' Blatt mk3 will probably be wheeled out of the shed as a complete bike sometime in 2025...

Re: Steel frames
Seems that all my current fleet are steel, altho I'd prefer carbon!
Plus 2 Bromptons.
