Take These (Supply) Chains from My Heart
Re: Take These (Supply) Chains from My Heart
Farmers always moan.
It must be very difficult living in an area where the Labour Party regularly lose their deposit.
All you can look forward to is getting Boris as your MP!

"Between December 2019 and March 2023 food prices rose by almost 25 percentage points. Our analysis suggests that in the absence of Brexit this figure would be 8 percentage points (30%) lower."

Unfortunately that FT article is paywalled, but it's well worth reading if you have a way through.
Nicola Malone, head of trade at Logistics UK, the transport trade body, said the fee was “extremely concerning” given current price pressures. “It is very high and if it is introduced, it will increase inflationary pressures and is likely to lead to market distortion in the movement of commodities,” she said.
Shane Brennan, director of the Cold Chain Association, added that the proposals did not make sense at a time when the government was actively discussing imposing price controls on UK supermarkets to bring down the cost of staple foods. “It is insane that the government, one day, holds a crisis meeting in Downing Street to discuss out-of-control food inflation, and the next wants to approve a new multimillion-dollar import tax on EU food imports,” he said.

This is based on the Make UK Q2 report:

It has one very important message: the UK's urgent need for an industrial strategy.

I would pay the Telegraph nothing here it is without a pay wall https://archive.ph/2023.07.24-070225/ht ... ts-brexit/
I’d also not pay them much attention. Cherry picking 'manufacturing does that mean agriculture, fishing and financial services aren’t included?
Also fails to mention the increase it’s boasting is from a low, post transition, figure. The U.K. gov state exports while rising still haven’t met pre transition figures and our imports from the EU have returned to earlier figures. This means our trade deficit with the EU is bigger than ever. https://researchbriefings.files.parliam ... P-7851.pdf
Don’t suppose the Telegraph thought that important.

Telegraph take
Manufacturing exports to EU increases in spite of Brexit warnings
Actual words on the website summary for the report
The effects of Brexit and COVID-19 on UK manufacturing
Since the end of the transition period, export orders have failed to keep pace with the domestic market as international customers shied away from UK markets, and domestic suppliers began to seek new relationships at home.
Employment in the industry has been receiving a lot more focus over the last few quarters as the labour shortage in manufacturing continues to weigh on businesses’ ability to raise output levels to their post-pandemic recovery potential. There are many factors that are exacerbating the challenges manufacturers are facing when it comes to accessing labour, with the leading issues being: increased difficulty sourcing labour from the EU following the UK’s exit from the Bloc, an expensive labour market and changing workforce attitudes towards flexible working.

Immediate conclusion: The Telegraph is dishonestly misrepresenting the report,
Secondary conclusion: People like to be told things that confirm their beliefs, and are too lazy to dig behind headlines.

Your attempt to distract from the dishonest Telegraph report is noted.
Please link to me telling you the things you reference.
There has already, though been a "disaster" in the form of a substantial GDP drop, already seen, as you were previously alerted to. viewtopic.php?p=1785715#p1785715
To put this in context, it's equivalent to imposing a substantial recession on the economy.
Re: Take These (Supply) Chains from My Heart
Theres no recession, but there is in other EU countries.

Re: Take These (Supply) Chains from My Heart
Again, noted that you don't answer the point (that UK GDP has dropped substantially as a result of Brexit) but instead try to distract from it. Reality seems to be consistently inconvenient to you.
UK growth and trade have lagged substantially behind any European measure since the Brexit referendum, and trade has been affected more than the overall economy.
Here are GDP per head figures from the OECD. Each column is a year, from 2016 - 2022.
Our overall economy started about 10% greater per head than the EU average, and ended on a par.
Exactly as you'd expect from imposing trade barriers on our nearest neighbours.
