This is like one of the lockdown quizzes

Can we identify the stretch of road from the OP's video and mention of Tregaron ?

When we do, can we ask him why he accelerated into a potential hazard in a built up area with a limit point that never really went beyond the pedestrian on the left before he sighted the kid and why he reached it within a mere 2 seconds.

Maybe it’s possible. On the other hand it would make a lot more sense if one of the Mod’s decided to lock this pointless thread, it is going nowhere useful and might just be upsetting the OP (who, to be honest, has more than enough else in his difficult life to try to cope with). The thing about berating somebody is that it doesn’t necessarily increase their ability to understand and, worse, likely encourages them to dig their heels in.

Don’t fret, it’s OK to: ride a simple old bike; ride slowly, walk, rest and admire the view; ride off-road; ride in your raincoat; ride by yourself; ride in the dark; and ride one hundred yards or one hundred miles. Your bike and your choices to suit you.

Absolutely.. ages and ages ago when I was alot younger, I managed to kill myself on my small motorcycle. On the plus side, the ambulance turned up in time and made me alive again. But, yeah, I'll own that. I made a giant stupid mistake. On the plus side, i'm still monumentally grateful to God, the Universe and everyone that I didn't harm anyone else...
There ain't a day I don't forget it.. from the scaring on my belly to the lack of feeling in my big and middle toes of my right foot..
..the thing is being a road user goes further than apportioning the blame, whose right and whose wrong, its about maintaining control and safety of yourself and those around you. It's about learning from past situations, and it's harder to learn from any situations if responsibility isn't taken.

Welcome to the Road Danger Reduction approach, where instead of repeating the same "road safety" platitudes year after year and pretending something will change if we only wring our hands enough, want it enough and blame the vctims enough we look at removing the primary danger at source, which means the people needing to modify their behaviour (whether they're forced to by planning/engineering, or in other cases by just getting on with doing it themselves) are the people bringing the danger to the situation, and on the roads that typically means drivers.

So where you're driving in a residential area with poor sightlines you need to appreciate that this sort of thing can happen and proceed with suitable caution, realising that if you don't it's your fault and not something you can just blame parents for.

And yes, I know you're obsessed with helmets for riding bikes, but realise they're designed for mitigating minor injuries in low energy falls with no other vehicle involved (i.e., the same sort as thing as falling over in a school playground, where the established method of dealing with a head-whack is some TLC, a note home and a sticker), watch this video and please get a grasp of context.

So if you realise that that's the reality of it, why are you so keen to pour blame on to parents who, as far as we can tell from your video, have done nothing obviously terrible?

(And no, letting kids out without helmets isn't terrible or irresponsible. Count the helmets here...)

You've lost me.

Child has obviously popped into the road to bypass the pedestrian on the very narrow pavement. Whilst the fact that he was on a bike makes this a bit odd (since cycling on pavement is strictly speaking illegal regardless of age/speed/safety) consider a similar situation but with two pedestrians.

B steps into the road to pass A. B is even on the correct side per highway code guidance (which advises walking towards the flow of vehicular traffic). B is entirely correct in their actions, and since they are established in the road, and is much higher up the road user hierarchy, they very much have priority.

Had you subsequently shouted and sworn at them that could easily constitute assault (just as it may well have done with this child), though in reality they'd probably have just told you where to go and possibly stuck a foot shaped dent in your car's bodywork. Or are only willing to swear at children who don't fit your helmet obsession? :?
