You are quite correct, fitter people with a good left ventricle often tolerate AF surprisingly well. The impact of losing the atrial kick when in AF has a much more noticeable impact on those with a poor LV ejection fraction.axel_knutt wrote: ↑12 Apr 2023, 7:57pmI've had several doctors who were rather bemused that I wasn't feeling unwell at that rate, and one consultant who insisted that my HR can't have been that high or I would have been unconscious. When I mentioned that to a nurse she said "Oh he doesn't know what he's talking about, I've seen loads of patients with HR that high".Cowsham wrote: ↑12 Apr 2023, 1:23amWas the sweat naw lashin oot o yea ?axel_knutt wrote: ↑11 Apr 2023, 10:42pm
On the day I was diagnosed the first thing the paramedic did was put one of those on. It read 70bpm, the correct rate was 210.
Here's one of the paramedic's rhythm strips from 20.8.12, the day I was diagnosed:
20.8.12 @11.11.49 AF @ 216bpm 3L Redact.jpg
The rate's fluctuating between 137bpm and 230, with the auto (top right) reading 216, and I was sitting in the armchair chatting with the paramedic at the time that was printed.
It was always my theory that unfit people are the ones who feel unwell with AF, and the fitter ones brush it off. My electrophysiologist said he has several patients who are Olymic athletes. In the 10 years since I was diagnosed I have lost alll my fitness, and my AF now makes me feel effin' lousy, so I'm even more convinced.
This is a 12-lead ECG from Resus with the diagnosis written on it:
20.8.12 @13.54.25 Resus AF @177bpm 12L.jpg
Atriall Fibrillation

Re: Atriall Fibrillation
Going for angiogram tomorrow. I wonder what the outcome will be?
Cheers

Re: Atriall Fibrillation
Got good result today. Will need medication only, no blocked arteries so not too bad. Was diagnosed purely by chance so get yourself a regular medical check if you are over 50 or at any age if you are an athlete.

Sonny Cobrelli.
Thanks for that
Re: Atriall Fibrillation
Going for cardioversion on this Tues. If I don't post here on Wed you'll know what happened.

Re: Atriall Fibrillation
It'll be fine. Had two myself.
Re: Atriall Fibrillation
Good luck.
Nb I’ve finally been invited for my heart monitor but actually I don’t think they’ll find anything - it’s cleared since I tweaked my diet to up the calories and carbs. Presumably I’m now vulnerable to it so If it happens again I’ll use my work health insurance to get it looked at more quickly.
Re: Atriall Fibrillation
Had cardioversion today and all went well so far. Thank you all for replies and guidance etc.

That's good to hear.

Nathan Van Hoydonck’s immediate retirement has been announced. His recent car accident was heart related, this has now been determined to be an arrhythmia problem of some variety and he needs a some sort of permanent fix that will prevent him racing in future. too many successful sportspeople suffering from this type of event at the moment
Re: Atriall Fibrillation
Definitely can't complain now. Nathan is only 27 and I made 72 before I was diagnosed with a similar condition but I only need medication and I can carry on cycling for leisure which is what I always did.
