Ladies Hybrid bike 200quid budget - recommendations?

Post by tinribs »

Hi there

Am looking for a ladies hybrid bike for a friend who lives in Portugal. She wants it for going out on day rides, and would like something that can also handle forest tracks. Ideally she would also like something with eyelets for a pannier rack. Her budget is 200quid. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I don't know what is available in Portugal, but if you're buying it in this country you won't go far wrong with a Carrera Subway. Yes, I know Halfords is a dirty word around these parts, but it's cheap*, reasonably good quality, and has everything she's looking for.

*Not as cheap as it was last week! It was down to £184 in the sale.
Cynic? No, an optimist tempered by experience.

My Specialized Globe was just over your budget - £220 I think (can't quite remember). It seems to get along quite ok for me.

I got a Claud Butler for £185 for pootling round town.
Waste of money.
The gears don't all work, the brakes rub, the mudguards and chainguard are forever being knocked out of place by potholes ... it's just rubbish.

Cheers for all the advice. Ed Co-op's trailfinder looks like a good deal at the mo. Any more help appreciated.

Gears not working and brakes rubbing would sound like setup or build issues to me.

Can't really write off a bike because of the shop who assembled it.
