On-One Pompino frameset - Small

Post by peterbayliss »

I have an On-One Pompino frame and forks to give away, collection only from WR15 area.

Now discontinued by On-One/Planet and they made a few versions of the frame (4 I think).
I used it as a fast commuter with a single spend rear wheel and then with a 3 speed Sturmey-Archer hub.
DN6 double butted steel frame, rear spacing 120mm (OLN), 700C wheel size with v-brake/cantilever studs.

It has signs of wear and tear with marks on the paint, some surface rust marks and could do with a new head set and bottom bracket. However, I think it sill has plenty of life left.
It is a smaller size and does have significant toe overlap.

Older photo of when I was using it but you can see the overlap.

Not sure if it is a V3 but is going to have geometry like the S size

Would shorter cranks help alleviate some of the toe overlap? As it’s a small frame might work?

I rode one of these for a couple of years. Toe overlap wasn't an issue for general riding. Just don't try low speed tight turns like turning away around on the road. although with practice one can master this. :D
Btw were is collection from.
At the last count:- Peugeot 531 pro, Dawes Discovery Tandem, Dawes Kingpin X3, Raleigh 20 stowaway, 1965 Moulton deluxe, Falcon K2 MTB dropped bar tourer, Rudge Bi frame folder, Longstaff trike conversion on a Giant XTC 840 :D

I think it had 170 mm cranks, I would have to check. Also someone with smaller shoes might find it less of an issue.

Yes, I generally didn't find the toe overlap a problem especially as I had it single speed instead of fixed and could turn with a pedal down and back pedal a little if needed. Occasionally it would catch me out when making the right angle turns needed on a cycle path.
It is a compromise of geometry especially with 700c wheels, small frame and short wheel base but I mention it as I know some people hate toe overlap.

Is the frame still available, I'm very interested as after back problems my faithfull Holdsworth fixie frame is now too long in the top tube for my reach. Happy to make a donation to the cyclists defence fund.
