Any bald ex-pro cyclists?
Just watched Ned Bolting's ITV programme about Irish cycling and it struck me that I can't recall seeing any high level ex-pro racing cyclists who have gone bald.
Apart from Pantani are there any?
Is this testosterone linked?
Me being bald and ex-extremely mediocre, have I now got an excuse?

Re: Any bald ex-pro cyclists?
Here’s what a seemingly sensible, and not attempting to sell something, article says:
“…… it is not the amount of testosterone circulating in the bloodstream that dictates baldness, it’s down to genetics. Several genes are thought to be involved, all resulting in hair follicles becoming particularly sensitive to tiny amounts of circulating testosterone.”
So it might be that the “not prone to baldness” genetics also confers “good at cycling”, but I don’t think so, because keeping a head of hair and going grey fairly late is in both sides of my family, and it hasn’t conferred any cycling ability on me!

Bjarne Riis was also a bit tonsorially challenged. His nickname of Mr 60% was thought to refer to his haematocrit level but it might well have applied to his receding hairline.

John Herety, Continental Pro in the late 70’s and 80’s is now completely bald. Graham Jones, ex- Peugeot Pro is pretty bald too. My friend Dave Gretton (a UK Pro in the 1970’s) is also quite bald.

I wondered about Ercole, now in his nineties, but he still seems to have a head of hair
Re: Any bald ex-pro cyclists?
Not sure who it was but recent pro team were sponsored by Alcepin Shampoo ,and they featured in ads ,and I recall the team leader was balding which struck me as slightly bizzare to use him in the ad.
Re: Any bald ex-pro cyclists?
I would imagine that people who are already balding are a major market for Alpecin shampoo.

Bjarne Riis was almost totally bald when he won his first Tour de France! Met him in Switzerland once while touring, lovely bloke.

The great Fiorenzo Magni was bald while he was still racing, never mind after he retired. Amongst other feats he won the Giro three times and the Tour of Flanders three years in succession. https://bikeraceinfo.com/oralhistory/magni.html

Laurent Fignon is another who springs to mind.
