I'm surprised that they chose choice rather than health or harm reduction for the headline.
I'm not: IMHO choice is a good riposte to the 'war on the motorist' rhetoric and something many folk get excised about.

Apart from anything else this is totally politically inept. All it’ll take is for someone to be hit and killed by a speeding motorist and every interview will be ‘and what do you say to X’s parents?’

Yes. Ditto when the statistics arrive from Wales.

And the analysts don't even think that it will work with the wider electorate before that. Just various Conservative factions.

It really seems we’re being governed by damage limitation now - they know they’re going to lose the next election and now it’s all about shoring up the core vote to try and hang onto as many seats as possible.

Problem there is that Tory voters like a 20mph limit and not having their local river full of sewage as much as anyone else.

Do they? In the abstract, maybe. If addressing such concerns costs them, in time and/or money, then they don't give a damn. They are too selfish to accept any pro-enviromental action that causes even them even the slightest inconvenience.

Has the UK cycling revolution ever got on the road?
I've seen many programmes, strategies and hopes come and go with some local successes, but with little change in the nation overall.

That’s a fair question. Problem is that there’s a lot of talk and councils encouraging people to walk/cycle… without putting in the infrastructure or traffic mitigation to make them feel safe doing so.

It’s particularly disappointing given that giving people a range of travel options is an equality issue when Lab/LDs oppose local active travel measures.
