What region would you advise me to pitch for a 2-week tour in quiet country, beautiful scenery and small towns/villages that would change her prejudice against touring in UK. Anywhere but Cornwall? (We don't mind a bit of ups and downs).

Thank you.
A bit further afield than the south east but a trip up to Lincolnshire / Yorkshire would tick all your boxes, quiet, traffic free lanes, loads to see and much cheaper than the South East.
Convention? what's that then?

I have only ever toured in UK (long ago) and Europe long ago and much more recently. I rode a bike around Boulder, Colorado, USA once too. For my wife and me the cycling infrastructure here in Germany and the Netherlands where we tour makes it an enjoyable experience. We both hate riding on busy roads. We like to stop and look at things - Europe has lots to look at. We travel by train to our starting point and from the end. We can speak the languages of the people on the way (must try France). We meet people on bikes frequently, mostly not wearing lycra. Guest houses and hotels welcome people and their bikes. People in general don't regard us on bikes as eccentrics, freaks or nuisances. We feel welcome. Maybe we are not adventurous enough?
I am NOT a cyclist. I enjoy riding a bike for utility, commuting, fitness and touring on tout terrain Rohloff, Brompton ML3 (2004) and Wester Ross 354 plus a Burley Travoy trailer.

Thank you. I'll start my research there.
