Just prompted by the regular postings on Tour Aotearoa from people looking to locate stolen (often very expensive) bikes.
I assume that because the Tour has defined start dates and many participants they are an obvious targets for scrotes, whereas LEJOG is an all year ad hoc activity with many different routes and timings.
Just wondering.
Bicycle theft common on JOGLE/LEJOG?
Re: Bicycle theft common on JOGLE/LEJOG?
I can find two instances of a bike stolen while riding LEJOG.

Most of the time you are not riding through big cities, where bike theft is rife. We did leave our bikes in the centre of Glasgow for about an hour during the afternoon but they were fine (we removed the panniers and had decent locks). It depends on how much sightseeing you are doing along the way, but most of the time you’ll be riding your bike, or you would be at a food stop, where bikes can be kept in sight (we often bought sandwiches and eat them on a bench somewhere) or you’ll be at your overnight stop, which would hopefully have secure bike parking.

I think you'd have to be extremely unlucky to get your bike nicked north of Glasgow. There's hardly anyone there!
