During my apprenticeship I was seconded to a substation in Indian Queens in Cornwall. We were being instructed in the operation of the substation by an engineer with a strong local accent. My fellow students became quite agitated and later admitted to me they didn't comprehend anything he said.
Being a Devon lad from Plymouth I could manage the dialect.
BTW the locals use "tiz" not it's.

Seeing the chaos in the local Tesco car park and the amount of people returning to their cars with one or two bags of shopping. Lots of people looking stressed and angry where peace and courtesy and a healthy walk would be a viable option. "It's the same every year" I thought as I walked away into relative tranquility and, for the first time in ages, the sun on my face, a great view over the hills of distant Penwith and dreams of riding out there in the new year.

Try a 7am shop in Tesco,Castle Douglas,a totally stress free experience .Virtually empty,however,it would mean moving a few hundred miles north.

That's funny, but not in the way you meant it. It's laughable there are people so bigoted they think people they disagree with politically should be kicked out of the country.

Going around a corner on a country road there was a big fat bum sticking out of the grass bank.

I was past it about 50 yards before my confused brain had made the decision to turn around and check it out.

It was a big fat bum -- belonging to a big fat farmer who thankfully was OK and just digging a small trench with a trowel or something for a water run off.

As soon as I got out of earshot I let go of the laugh that was getting louder inside my head.
