I then select the photo in the gallery and use the edit function to rotate it and repost it but is still sideways. I have tried importing said photo to my pc where the pic viewer shows it as being upright but when I post it to the forum it's sideways again. Rotating it on the pc and reposting makes no improvement.
Which operating system on the PC and which program do you use to manipulate the image?

Thanks

I've just encountered this problem, not for the first time, and had a few minutes to fiddle about.

I'm using a Samsung galaxy s10e with android v12.

I took a portrait picture using the standard camera software, and although it views on my phone as portrait (and in WhatsApp etc) it displays as landscape in the forum.

I opened the photo on my phone in the standard gallery app and resized the photo to a lower resolution and saved the copy. This retains the portrait aspect when loaded to the forum.

As eluded to above, there is an exif tag which the forum software uses to control orientation and I suspect that the bog standard camera app is not setting it to the forum software's satisfaction, but the gallery resize function does.

I'm not sure if other operating systems and phones work like this, but hopefully it may help at least a subset of forum users.
