Anybody experience of camping in Poland?
Again I'm thinking about Route R1 but checking using cycle.travel (which is based on Archies last download) and cam sites look really few and far between. Google shows a map but when you look at that in relation to a cycle route, still doesn't look like many.
R1 appeals as it's countries I've never cycled to before but my experiences of camping in Germany are not great but that's just down the Rhine. Poland campsite availability ... asking but on into Lithuania and Latvia also looking "challenging". I'm keen on the route but don't want it to turn into a struggle to find places to stay. Plus France not so exciting these days, Netherlands I seem to keep recognising "been here 2 years ago ...".
I'll be on my tadpole bent so B&B's, hotels a bit harder as not so practical to carry cycle into room.
Many thanks
Ian

Sorry I don't have any experience camping in Poland, but I have cycled through the Czech Republic (a similar-ish country?) and didn't come across many campsites. Those I did find were often very basic or not open to the public (think activity camp).
However.... b&b accommodation was plentiful and outside big cities very cheap (£20-25/night). Given une emplacement in France can set you back a similar amount of money, have you considered staying indoors instead?
Otherwise - would you wild camp? I imagine there would be lots of options for that

Not keen on wild camping for variety of reasons (eg I tend to restaurant, don't carry enough water for evening /overnight, etc.).

Last summer I found a lot of municipal campsites had moved to private ownership. I tend to eat in restaurants in the evenings but last summer this was difficult with a lot of restaurants closed in evening or only open Fr, Sa eve. Just wasn't as enjoyable as previous tours in France.

Interesting. Perception is reality. Since I don't eat out that often, I haven't noticed.Psamathe wrote: 13 May 2024, 11:07pmLast summer I found a lot of municipal campsites had moved to private ownership. I'm sure there are strong variations among the regions but I think it's a fact that many restaurants in rural areas are forced to change, due to a combination of factors:
- at the moment, staffing is hard. Those ready to work in hospitality won't accept the same working schedules
- the old style sales representatives who used to be on the road all week are fewer and tend to stay in bigger localities in chain hotels. They provided a good part of the business of small hotels/restaurants during week nights.
- competition from Airbnb is putting additional pressure
- on the larger scale, the trend is going down. It's started with cafés, and now restaurants (real ones at least; not including snacks)
Services density has long affected travelers on foot, now hitting cyclist. Regions like the Creuse department in the Limousin region is the worst example. One has to plan carefully for resupply.

Depends what you are looking for. If you are looking for a place with bathrooms where you can setup tent you can look for "pole namiotowe".
If you would like to hike and stay for the night in the polish forests (with no infrastructure) look up "program zanocuj w lesie".
This https://www.bdl.lasy.gov.pl/portal/mapy ... wms=&hist= is the most precise resource about the areas you can camp in national forests out there.
While wild camping boars will be your biggest consideration.
