I made a GPX route of Nürburgring Nordschleife

Post by Manc33 »

Not sure where this thread should go

I wanted to make a cycle route of the Nürburgring Nordschleife racetrack on cycle.travel, just because I thought it would be funny to pretend to ride around it on a bicycle on my indoor trainer with the route on my Garmin... but because it's not a real road, it's not on the map on cycle.travel. I had to find some other way...

I drew a path around the racetrack in Google Earth, saved as a KML file, converted that to GPX by using this, then seeing that it didn't have elevations, I copied it to my Garmin, unplugged it, plugged it back in, copied the FIT file version, converted that back to GPX and the elevations were there. Then I tidied that up a bit more by getting rid of the time tags and it's all done.

So if you want to cycle on your indoor trainer (with map on a Garmin or Wahoo) around Nürburgring Nordschleife, now you can.

It's about 13 miles long.

It's far hillier than many people realise....... Hohe Acht is the highest point, shortly after the Caracciola-Karussell.

Time well spent, I'm sure we'd all agree!
