My bold.pjclinch wrote: 19 Jun 2024, 9:06am"Lightweight" is a relative term, and we're also back to the old adage of "strong, light, cheap, pick any two". So lightweight is fine as long as suitable money has been thrown at making it strong. Something like a Hille Anjan is probably stronger than a Banshee as well as lighter and roomier... but it costs one hell of a lot more!Bullsnut wrote: 19 Jun 2024, 8:28am The Vango was definitely the right choice and if anyone is thinking of cycling the outer Hebrides I would recommend leaving a lightweight tent at home.
Sometimes what needs to be taken into account is an individual’s budget, and sometimes a limited budget is implied rather than stated. My own budget is always low and low to the extent that the Vango would seem pricey to me, but I am a life long tightwad

As for weight, well to my mind I accept that lightweight stuff is dear and that if the price is unpalatable then I can choose to rider slower and not go so far. Maybe mine’s an unusual mindset but, so long as I’m happy, I really don’t mind going slower and covering less distance. YMMV, etc.
^^ I agree, but claim no expertise.Sweep wrote: 20 Jun 2024, 5:01pm yep weight is weight - one's attitude to whatever weight is a matter of personal opinion and preference.
The heaviest thing on my bike is me … and I could do with shedding several excess kilograms.
