Hi there,
I'm having trouble mounting my Garmin Edge, I'd like to use the outfront mount with my Giant gravel bike (see above) but the handlebar geometry (more rectangular than cylindrical) means that the mount just slips and becomes too loose. A bike shop mechanic told me that my out front mount was incompatible with that handlebar.
Merlin cycles seem to have addressed this issue with their own mount. I was just wondering if 1 it would work with my bike and 2 the methods people have used to mount Garmins to those types of handlebars?
Thanks in advance

Re: Raceware Garmin Edge Road Bar Mount
I have two different mounts for the Garmin, both their own brand: a disc with elastic rings which cross behind the bar and an out-front with a circular clamp. They sometimes go on the bars and sometimes on a gadget bar, which can be fixed to either the bars or the stem.
Do you need the device to be out front for either input or display? (I have a steadily decreasing range of possible distances from my eyes.)
From those images I can't see where any of the possible points are round and where they're rectangularish.
The disc doesn't need to be mounted on something round so I'd look at that first.
If you need to adapt a round clamp to rectangular bars then you could mock up the adapter in rubber or softwood and when you have a design that works then have something neat made with 3D printing.

Re: Raceware Garmin Edge Road Bar Mount
Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for your message.
Like you I have both the out front mount which I was hoping to use and the rubber wrings which wrap underneath the handlebar. I think my best chance will be using the rubber rings to mount it to the stem. I was just hoping to avoid that because I have some less aggressive position bikes where I've used the rings and found that I have to look down rather than ahead to see the Garmin screen which is a pain.
I think a gadget bar sounds like my best bet. I like your idea about mocking up the adapter in rubber or softwood and having a design that works made with 3D printing, I'm just a newbie when it comes to this stuff and wouldn't really know how to do that.
The other thing about the rubber wring under handlebar setup is that it takes up a bit of space to twist the Garmin before it locks in which is annoying on narrow handlebars.

Agreed about position and head angle.
If the stem position doesn't work there's another option for the gadget bar which I forgot: on the bars, on the stem, and replacing a headset spacer:

Thanks, that's an interesting idea. I'm not sure how I'd know whether or not that spacer would be compatible with my head tube? The giant website shows the head tube angle and length.
I think a handlebar extender that attaches directly to the handlebar is my only option because I should have explained that I use a bar bag that would block the Garmin if it were mounted beneath the handlebar.

Re: Raceware Garmin Edge Road Bar Mount
I'd be immensely grateful if you could recommend a gadget bar that I could fit to my handlebar to create a suitable mounting surface.Jdsk wrote: 2 Jul 2024, 10:06am They sometimes go on the bars and sometimes on a gadget bar, which can be fixed to either the bars or the stem.
This is the handlebar I would like to add an extension to

The bar that we use on the stem of one of the tourers is a Minoura SwingGrip:

SJS Cycles carry (!) a big range of gadget bars:

PS: We also use bar bags. And headlamps. It can get pretty congested but with gadget bars we've always found a solution.

Raceware make a host of different Garmin mounts for different handlebars

If you can't find one that fits then you could try contacting them. They would probably create one (I think they are 3D printed).
