tandems on the Rotterdam waterbus

Post by CliveyT »

Hi all, slightly more esoteric question than usual, but I've never been on the Rotterdam waterbus, so I thought that I'd use it to get to den Biesbosch quickly and without having to go through too much of Rotterdam and environs (yes I know I've got to get to Erasmusbrug, but if I go via Delfshaven I'll at least have some scenery on the way).
Problem is we'll be going on the tandem this time and I can't see anything on their website yay or nay. I suspect it's not a problem, this is the NL after all and I'd imagine it carries bakfiets etc without argument, but I just thought I'd check if anyone's used it and if they saw any tandems on there at the time?

I've been on it a couple of times, but can't remember seeing any tandems. Your best bet is to contact them through the contact page on their website.

I do know that they now have at least one new battery electric waterbus that is bigger and has much more space for bikes. It may be that tandems are allowed on the new waterbus (since they can be parked longways), but not the old (where it could obstruct).

According to the dutch pages they will take Scooters & Bakfietsen so a tandem should be fine, a steward will give instructions where to park

There's loads of space for bikes so I don't think it'd be a problem at all.

Great, thanks all, I may well contact them but sounds like it's a goer.
I think I'm just being unduly paranoid after NS decided they weren't going to take tandems anymore

I've been on it today with a tandem, and despite it being a busy Sunday afternoon nobody batted an eye lid. You'll be fine.

Ah sorry I'm talking about the hoek van Holland to masvlakte ferry. But that one is definitely fine.
