Brompton with swytch kit - SOLD
Brompton with swytch kit - SOLD
I am looking to sell this bike on behalf of a recently widowed friend, it belonged to her husband.
It's a 5 speed model, not sure of the year but the swytch kit was purchased in 2021. The bike was well used, but also well looked after at a local cycle shop. Everything on it seems to work and there's a new chain. There is a small amount of spares, another chain, 4 inner tubes and the original front wheel.
The rear wheel doesn't appear to lock in place, so may need the catch replacing, unless that was not a thing on this model? I'm sure more knowledgeable forum members will know.
There is a nice front bag with rolltop closure, and original instructions/charging leaf for the swytch kit.
My friend would like £1500 for everything; I am not sure as to value, but if this is way off base then well informed feedback would be welcomed, as well as offers. She would ideally just like it to be used by somebody, the money will go to her husband's preferred charity.
The bike is in Shrewsbury, but I could potentially meet halfway somewhere reasonable if needs be. I'll try and attach some photos, please pm if more would help.

Re: Brompton with swytch kit
A difficult one to value. Its age and thus e.g. the brakes are against it - and used Brompton prices are definitely falling after peaks of a year or 2 ago. But it is electric so... my guess is that it would do slightly > a grand on ebay.
Disinterested comment - I am in the market for a Brommie, but not this one!
GLWS.

Thanks dj, appreciate the feedback. I did think she was a little optimistic with price. I'd be happy to hear any offers, and see what she might find acceptable.

Re: Brompton with swytch kit
Hi WEBH,
If the Brompton has a Sturmey Archer hub, there should be a date stamp on it. My Brompton looks similar to your friend's and the hub is date stamped 91-9 (September? 1991).
On this model, the rear catch does not lock into place.
If the bike has a two gear trigger system on the handlebars, it'll be a Sturmey Archer five speed gear, one trigger a Sprinter gear.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Invicta, I'll check it out. Away from home for a couple of days but I'll update on my return.
The brakes are 'saccom'.

Re: Brompton with swytch kit
You're welcome, WEBH.
Here is a photo of the rear brake on my Brompton. It looks like a different brand, CLB? Also photo of non locking rear wheel catch.

Re: Brompton with swytch kit
The rear sturmey archer hub is a sprinter, it has the single trigger for the 5 speeds. I could not see a date on it however.
The bike has obviously been well used but still seems to work as it should, I think my friend is keen to move it out of her life, so if anyone would like to make a fair offer I will see what she thinks.

Re: Brompton with swytch kit
Any offers for this bike? It really needs to go so I can start listing the next ones, which will include Moulton and I think a quite nice recumbent!
Re: Brompton with swytch kit
Any offers around £900? Seems fair to me, the swytch kit is £500, the front bag £130 on it's own. There's a spare front wheel.
I've charged it and tested it and it's actually really good fun, goes like a train even on half battery power.
