Me and the Forum

Post by Mick F »

Hi guys, I apologise for not being on here for months to any degree.

I'm not cycling much these days, as I always find other things to do (sadly) not least of which is walking our dog who is needy and requires much stimulation if me and Mrs Mick F want some peace! The weather this year and last year too hasn't helped. It's only been dry enough for me to cut the grass in our garden four times this year, as opposed to maybe twice a week in years gone by.

I was last out cycling 24th Sept. 21miles.

List this "Summer?"
13 Sept
27 Aug
19 Aug
6 Aug
27 Jul
10Jul
4 Jun
24 May

Mileages have been pitiful. Nothing over 30miles.
Not many years ago, I would think nothing of doing 40/50 miles (before even stopping for a breather), but now, I'm feeling my age. Back in the day, I would do centuries or maybe (only) 80miles. You all know me. You know of my achievements aims.
I'm looking forward the Old A30 being opened properly and I can finish my A30 bridges task.

Then what?

Good to see you posting, Mick.
I too have had a lean season or two with regard to cycling. Likewise I’d rather it were otherwise.
Did you see my post about cyclists being barred from the new A30 dual section?
I know you want to do the old section but my info might have some bearing on how you stitch those old sections together.
The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.

Worro, Mick. I've had a pretty sparse year too. All these aches & pains can't possibly be age, can they? Nah, it's just the weather. Anyway, damn the grass, the road awaits...
Have we got time for another cuppa?

Thanks guys. Very nice to have sympathy and comments.
Yes, I did see about the New A30. Motorway by any other name eh?

I drove down there to have a shufti, and saw the signs about cyclists, horse-drawn and invalid carriages etc.

I still keep an eye on the AA roadwatch site that shows the traffic flow and closures.

As of now.

Hi Mick, we were down in Portloe last week for a couple of days and called in at Lostwithiel on our way home. Thought of you as we crossed the Tamar. As for the cycling its been curtailed by weather quite a bit....obs I am getting soft! Think many posters have packed it in, whilst the technical side continues the friendly forum isnt what it was.

Glad to see a post from you. I hoped you hadn't just got fed up with the squabbles on here.

I've not always agreed with your views but welcomed very one of your posts.

Shame about you cycling less but getting out with the dog and benefiting from the exercise is a good thing.
Hoping that you haven't lost your appreciation of a good pint. :D

Hi guys, I apologise for not being on here for months to any degree.
What is there to apologise for?

The weather has been pretty off-putting, either a massively hot spell or the constant threat of rain. I've got into walking more because I feel less comfortable dressed for rain on the bike. Cycling in the rain is just unpleasant, not to mention sorting the bike out afterwards

You're getting out, the dog's happy and peaceful, enjoy life and the cycling will happen :)

I have an aim for a ride! :D :D :D :D :D

We were given a load of stuff to raffle off for a charity that Mrs Mick F supports.
There were a collection of postcards in a heap, and they didn't sell or anything. Today .......... after months of sitting in a box in the spare bedroom ............... we looked at them. They are all addressed to a place in Lydford, Devon, the grandchildren of "Nanny and Granddad" who have spent a few winters away abroad - including Spain. The postcards date back to the early 90's and the stamps are 45 pst ........ pre-Euro.

The address in Lydford, I don't recognise specifically, but I will ride to Lydford to find it. 25miles there and back from here.
Hopefully, the present occupants of the address will appreciate my efforts.

There's a pub there :D called the Castle (next door to Lydford Castle) Maybe I could pop in for pint and ask where the address is.

You'll be able to call in to the Devils Cauldron before it closes for the winter. Before you call in the pub.

this is how i remember it with a slippery wooden plank suspended from a pair of chains.

Nowadays they have upgraded the planks to secure metal walkways. Where's the fun in that.

Thought of you Mick when this was mentioned.

The Bolton lad will start his ultra-endurance cycle challenge during BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show on Monday, November 11 and will pedal almost 300 miles, starting in Wrexham.

Piece of cake compared with your ride and I bet he has a back up van. :D
