Moderator actions, part 2

I’m grateful for the moderation of fora and as a user of several understand the different rules apply.

I’m not bullied by the keyboard warriors but realise others maybe and that makes moderation an important role.

I find the site useful enough to put up with the people who assert their opinions and can’t listen to others without trying to discredit them. My post about a helmet would you believe was a genuine experience that I was so very grateful it saved my head from at least a bad headache and potentially worse.

I didn’t post about it to upset anyone, or make work for the moderators. I apologise to the mods, but not those who tried to discredit my comments.

This is all rather verbose and waffly, but I'm just home from the rugby club and have had a few beers. If any of you want to debate this further (but believe me, I'm heartily bored of it now) then DM me.

And yes, I do feel as if I'm being 'piled on' a little now.

I’ve not followed the thread but if you’re expecting perfect objectivity on this forum then you’ll be disappointed - doubtless many other forums are similarly imperfect. The moderation team here is (in my experience of them) broadly impartial but they’re volunteers and don’t expect them to be perfect. Like much else that life offers it’s a case of making the best of things and remembering to be realistic in your expectations.

Sometimes people are piled on and either are or feel mistreated. That’s life and the best thing to do is shrug it off and walk away - well, that’s what I’ve found to be the case.

Yes, agree about posting after beer. Respectfully though, since you've not followed events you're not in the best position to advise on what I should be doing. I had shrugged it off and walked away but a mod here seems determined to bait me. I don't want to walk away anymore. This dates to an issue from over a month ago that had died away to nought. slowster has decided to resurrect it for, IMO, reasons of trolling/baiting.

Perfect objectivity? I don't expect that in any aspect of my life, least of all an online forum full of strangers. I'm sure I'm not able to be objective all the time either. I do expect broadly fair and even behaviour by any forum's moderation team though.

I seem to recall you complaining about a particular moderator before and suggesting to you that you privately contact Vorpol (The Chief) with a view to having your issues addressed. Vorpol’s decisions - which I have respect for - are the best available here and after that it’s pretty much a case of ‘like it or lump it’.

There’s sometimes disappointment but there’s nothing wrong with expecting fair and even behaviour from any moderation team and in my experience of this place that’s pretty much what happens about 99% of the time - they get the vast bulk of stuff right. Whilst perhaps upsetting I’d suggest that the moderation team’s few failings are tolerable and being glad of what they do do right is the better way forward; well, for what it’s worth, that’s my perspective and my years here have not been without the occasional upset.

TLDR: He that expects too much will be disappointed.

Pretty much agree with all of that, it's sound advice. I did raise the issue with Vorpal who kindly removed the skeletal remains of the series of posts which had upset slowster so much. slowster has now taken it upon themselves to resurrect it without prior discussion with me.

I have no issues with the mod team on a broader base, none at all and I'm sure that for the most part they do a great job. However, IMO, slowster has abused their position as a mod and has behaved more like a troll. Eventually, if someone is baited enough they will rise to it, and I now have.

You’re welcome to my input and, it having taken a bit of thought and effort, I’m glad it’s appreciated.

Having successfully dealt with Vorpal once I suggest that you contact her again to get this further matter resolved.

Edit. I perhaps should have pointed out that this place - maybe other forums have them too - seems to have some pedants and obsessive types within it. How you deal with that situation is up to you - mostly taking little notice of them is a good start - but it’s helpful to be aware of it.

That said, they were given many more chances than new users typically are, but they persistently violated forum guidelines.
