The UK won its fight for justice against EU anti-trust officials.
Companies including BBA Aviation, Chemring (CHG.L), Daily Mail & General, Diageo (DGE.L), Euromoney, Inchcape (INCH.L), Meggitt , Smith & Nephew (SN.L), and WPP (WPP.L), have mentioned the EU investigation in their accounts.
The European Union competition enforcer said the UK's Controlled Foreign Company (CFC) rules aimed at attracting companies to set up headquarters in the country and discourage British companies from moving offshore, gave these firms an illegal advantage.
The Luxembourg-based Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) sided with Britain. https://www.reuters.com/world/eu-top-co ... 024-09-19/

Food safety isn't that simple. Eating more than 200g of tinned tuna per week could put you in breach of EU maximum residue levels of methylmercury. To put that into perspective, a tin from my cupboard is 145g
Body weight is also a factor, a child eating one tin could breach EU levels

EDIT missed the source... https://theconversation.com/healthier-f ... afe-139012

I agree that it could be considered a retrograde step, but only if you believe anecdotal evidence about WHO standards that the UK continues to observe

BEETROOT WIN!!

A whopping £150,000 market opens

This triumph showcases the benefits of a truly independent trade policy—something we simply couldn’t have achieved under the constraints of the EU

I don't think this is a parody, but you never know.

Why the euro is tumbling
The single currency is plunging against the pound and the dollar, and experts fear it could get worse

euro broken up

When polls started to show Donald Trump was on course for an improbable comeback to win the presidential election, the euro slumped.

The currency fell further as the full extent of his victory became clear. Since the election, it has dropped to $1.065 against the dollar, giving up almost all of its gains since April.

Part of the slump has been a story of dollar strength, with investors predicting Trump’s tariffs and free-spending instincts will keep inflation – and interest rates – high.

But the euro has also fallen against the pound, sending sterling to €1.208, its highest level in more than two years.

“The euro has suffered more than most in the wake of Trump’s victory and we doubt that will let up anytime soon,” says James Reilly at Capital Economics, who expects further falls to $1.
