What is CTC/CUK doing to protect you?

"""The RAC reports that Surrey County Council recorded the biggest increase in pothole claims, from 734 in 2022 to 3418 in 2023. Cycling UK is based in Surrey. Does it actually claim to be representing the interests of cyclists? If so, how has it manifestly failed to ensure its own County Council Highways Authority fulfilled its legal responsibilities to ensure the safety of all road users? I’d say that not only has the Highways Authority taken money under false pretences, but so has the Charity Cycling UK? Worth reporting to the Charity Commissioners?"""

I would imagine "pothole claims" includes drivers. Most times I have read about how bad the roads are, they usually state how much some driver had had to fork out to replace their dented wheel (plus tyre). Sometimes cyclists get in the news, particularly when someone has had a severe head injury (or worse).
If CUK/CTC were given the budget to repair Surrey's potholes, then a complaint to the Charity Commissioners might have some merit.
The roads in Oxfordshire are pretty poor (especially rural unclassified roads). Until the overall County budget is increased, the situation won't improve much. Yes they could transfer funds from other departments, but this probably means taking money from adult and child social care or education...... which would you choose?
The libraries here were decimated/closed years ago, so not much money there.
Unfortunately there is no magic money tree. Well there is, but that is seemingly only for wars and pandemics - not even for climate emergencies.

Echo the Oxfordshire thoughts. All one can do is report potholes using fixmystreet, and TBF the resolution is generally quite speedy.

I have a much greater concern regarding the non-enforcement of parking and traffic regulations around my daughter's school (in Bucks) where I have often reported the direct and obvious danger to children. I've been told, in terms, to stop reporting because they have limited resources, which is unacceptable, since what we are talking about is resource allocation and priority.

Excuse me, but as a member not living in Surrey, I'm not aware on any part of Cycling UK's brief that says "because we're based in Surrey, we're obliged to represent and deal with issues for Surrey cyclists first and foremost". This is just yet another lame attempt by Mr. Benstead to stir his regular anti-Cycling UK agenda.

Right or wrong that was my first reaction too. I’ve often wonder about posters motives, their grievances, and their agenda; on the other hand it’s sometimes best not to know and I’d be glad if the Mod’s locked the thread.
Don’t fret, it’s OK to: ride a simple old bike; ride slowly, walk, rest and admire the view; ride off-road; ride in your raincoat; ride by yourself; ride in the dark; and ride one hundred yards or one hundred miles. Your bike and your choices to suit you.

Just because you disagree please stop free speach.

I am disspointed by the lack of debate on this forum of the activities of CTC HQ, the lack of increase in membership for one.

I assumed that the OP was tongue in cheek, but seemingly not. Reporting CUK to the Charity Commission because pothole claims have increased. Seriously?

Nowhere in your post did you indicate that you were simply quoting someone else - so if you don't like, it learn to use quote marks and say who you're quoting in future. And even the laziest browse of your former threads makes your anti-Cycling UK agenda very clear.

I am not anti-CTC I just want them to think of their members. I also want people on here to debate the issues facing CTC and their response.
