Cycling In Norwich
Cycling In Norwich
Hi, I'm a 70 year old cyclist who is intending to move to Norwich in the early summer. I have been riding with CTC North Yorkshire for 23 years, 10 of those with York Wednesday Wheelers CUK group. I have not been able to find a CUK members group in Norwich so I was wondering if there were any CUK members who would like to meet up for mid week rides?I'd appreciate help and advice about cycling in Norwich/East Anglia.
Re: Cycling In Norwich
I think I remember hearing that Norwich CTC had ceased and its resources shared to the Diss and West Norfolk branches. I think sometimes people from the West Norfolk branch right around the areas just west of Norwich like Hethersett and Wymondham so it might be worth emailing their chairman. His details are on https://wnctc.org.uk/about/
Veteran campaigner Tony Clarke would also definitely know what's happening there. I only seem to have a facebook for him at the moment. www.NorwichCyclingCampaign.org also probably know more.
Cycling in Norwich is fine. The pedalways were sign posted and waymarked by the city council about ten years ago and mostly make sense. The county council took over control of city roads a few years ago and their more recent upgrades are a bit hit or miss, and more miss than hit.
Outside the city, nearly all back roads are fine and most B roads, but most A roads are terrible and best avoided. There are a few longer distance waymarked/signed routes and some GPX ones like CTC's Rebellion Way. The longer named ones are generally fine and actually so are most of the numbered sustrans routes but they are sometimes a little bit indirect for little good reason other than to get within a few miles of some village to meet the old millennium lottery target.

Re: Cycling In Norwich
Many thanks for this. I will miss the very active CUK groups in York but I'm sure I'll find a few kindred spirits.
