PAD and cycling

Post by Traction_man »

I've had soreness around my calf and behind my knee for over a year, so far the GP has referred me to a physio, doing the exercises made no difference so I got a referral for x-ray and MRI, the x-ray showed nothing abnormal, I'm still awaiting the MRI results.

But searching online, as our ailments often incline us to do these days, what's popped up is PAD, peripheral arterial disease.

With a history of very high blood pressure, now under control, and a parent who died due to gangrene after foot amputation at a fairly young 65, I'm beginning to wonder. PAD can be hereditary and is caused by high BP. I'm 57.

So I'm curious if folks here have had similar issues, especially calf cramps and tightness behind the knee, and back of leg, and if it's a result of PAD how (has) it impacted on your cycling?

So far I find walking more uncomfortable than being on the bike but after a while doing either does make my leg sore.

Cheers,

Keith
