Re: Why does Trump lie so much?
Being military allies wont (isn’t if you regard Musk as part of the Trump administration) prevent them interfering in our democracy and/or attempting to make sure that someone who sees the world the way they do is put in charge here.

^ Nearholmer :
"I may be having cheese-before-bedtime nightmares, but I honestly think that Trump would be content to give Europe to Russia, provided that he got the countries he wants to create his empire, and that a choice is being deliberately created for the UK as to whether we become the Far Eastern edge of the US Empire, useful for hegemony over the North Atlantic, or the Far Western edge of the Russian Empire......."
Will it be like Brexit? A Referendum? What a delightful thought!

Re: Why does Trump lie so much?
Russian-organised votes tend not to have knife-edged outcomes ….,,. They do a lot of groundwork in advance, some of it involving digging holes and burying influential people who might lead things in a direction that they don’t favour. I think the modern US approach is to progressively disenfranchise people until they get an electorate that they like. So, if there is a referendum, probably hardly anyone will get to take part, and those that do will be quaking in their boots.

Some food for thought about Trump's friends and financiers and influence of the young, potentially radical and impressionable from that "shock jock" Richard O'Brien(17minutes but worth a listen IMHO):- https://youtu.be/MdCdoB99AQ4?si=YcbfeN8ppJQ4iqYw

Re: Why does Trump lie so much?
For quite a while now, I have played around with a theory I have about Trump. Bearing in mind that I share the commonly held belief that the man is a dangerous and damaging phenomenon, I also wonder if, almost by accident, he can be a force for good in certain circumstances.
It has been suggested in recent days that Israel only grasped the nettle and agreed to the Gaza ceasefire when Trump, following his election victory, demanded they achieve a ceasefire by January. Biden had been trying to get Israel to that position for the best part of a year, with no success.
And my theory is that leaders of other nations listen more carefully to Trump's demands because, unlike Biden, he is not calm, measured and predictable. He is impatient, petulant and rash. Maybe that is sometimes useful. He is now deploying the same lever on the war in Ukraine. Let's see how it goes.

James O'Brien. Not Richard O'Brien who is the creator of the Rocky Horror Show and first presenter of the Crystal Maze, who would probably be a less strange president than Trump.reohn2 wrote: ↑22 Jan 2025, 4:47pm Some food for thought about Trump's friends and financiers and influence of the young, potentially radical and impressionable from that "shock jock" Richard O'Brien(17minutes but worth a listen IMHO):- https://youtu.be/MdCdoB99AQ4?si=YcbfeN8ppJQ4iqYw
It's disappointing how much UK news media lied about Trump's pal Musk's repeated salute, isn't it?

Re: Why does Trump lie so much?
Basically True:
The Mirror described it correctly, but still put it in quotes and so did the Standard and the National.
Liars:
The BBC called it only a "gesture" or "one-armed gesture". I didn't find it on the ITV News or Channel 4 News sites.
It was a "salute gesture" to the Daily Mail headline writer, later edited to just call it a "salute". They weasel to say "some likened to a Nazi salute" which yes, they did, but only the ones too feeble to say it actually was one!
Not usually one to align with the Daily Mail, The London Economic called it a "salute" and even that only in quote marks.
The Independent perpetuated the "Roman salute" myth in its headline as did the Telegraph.
The Spectator called it an "odd-looking salute" as did other media outlets quoting CNN instead of doing their own reporting.
Compare that with Euronews calling it straight, or Die Zeit's famous cover story.
Best if you saw it for yourself, live, of course. If not, don't trust the UK media to report the whole story. And definitely don't trust social media, especially the US nerd lord ones that have edited it out of their news clips.

"salutes": IMO wikipedia gets it about right: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_salu ... auguration
It's possible that he didn't intend it to be a Nazi gesture at the time. But what's interesting is he's made it clear he doesn't care if people think he's making Nazi gestures:
He thinks he's invulnerable and/or loves attention seeking.

The Republicans were openly pursuing voter suppression tactics from 2020. Democrats failed to counter this. That's about it.reohn2 wrote: ↑25 Jan 2025, 9:39am US Demockracy how Trump "won" the election, Thom Hartmann interviews Greg Palast(10 minutes of your time):- https://youtu.be/0LN65qFUDDo?si=fcC-VS9A3yyEstz0
