I have been promised an SRAM I-light front hub to play with for use as a spare next winter. Good stuff.
However it has no fixing nuts on the axle ends. Can't find them size/info anywhere online.
Anyone ever used one?
Thanks
SRAM axle size?
Re: SRAM axle size?
Can you see a part number on it?
Can you add a photo?
Thanks

Re: SRAM axle size?
not yet no. it's on the way to mrs mig in another part of the country so i won't see it for a month or so. then i'm hoping to fettle it into a wheel - should the thing work ! note to self - find a rim to take a 35c tyre in the next few weeks.
i'm hoping that the axle is fairly standard despite the hub being an uncommon one - but you never know!

Have you got this diagram? Open it in a new window for better resolution.

ta muchly. tis numbers 1 and 3 needed methinks
Re: SRAM axle size?
it is most probably M9 x 1 mm threading (same threading as standard shimano QR front hubs and some nutted ones) but there are no guarantees; Sachs/SRAM have form for using odd threads in their hubs eg. a lot of 'torpedo' hubs use 10.5 mm x 26 tpi threading. I would suggest you measure it carefully, and take it from there. The first thing is to establish what the thread pitch is; it will most likely be 1 mm pitch, or 24 tpi or 26 tpi pitch thread. You can tell which by simply holding the mystery axle alongside a male thread of known pitch. So for example a spare axle or a standard M6 screw might have 1 mm pitch threading and when it is the same as the mystery axle they will 'nestle together' perfectly. It is quite difficult to distinguish 26 tpi from 1 mm pitch sometimes, but they don't 'nestle together' perfectly. You may need to hold them up to the light and 'rock' them to see this clearly.

Re: SRAM axle size?
If that diagram is correct the thread is FG9,5 (Fahrradgewinde 9.5), which is 9.5mm major diameter and 26tpi. Yes, it's a weird German one from.the Fichtel & Sachs era.
Re: SRAM axle size?
9.5mm x 26tpi is just a gnat's smaller than 3/8" x 26tpi so this is one where you could easily strip a thread if you are not careful.
From bitter experience I can tell you that 9.5mm nuts don't go onto 3/8"axles very easily either.

Re: SRAM axle size?
thread resurrection - sorry

sjs seem to think that 3/8 and 9.5mm are the same thing judging by this listing. hmmm. not a major outlay of funds but would be annoying if they didn't fit.

Re: SRAM axle size?
the clue is often that the hexagon is a different size on 9.5mm nuts; they are usually 14mm not 15mm like other track nuts. FWIW I do have a small stash of 9.5mm x 26tpi threaded track nuts
