HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOB MARLEY!

BORN 80 YEARS AGO TODAY!

Unusually (for obvious reasons) I remember exactly where and when I first listened to Bob. A mate's flat above a mini-mart in Leeds 6, shortly before the shop was torched in trade dispute (!).

Loved it then and now.

I saw Bob at York University around 1973, supported by Babe Ruth.
Currently listening to Led Zep 1 before seeing the film tomorrow.

Long story short, we frequent a back-street boozer in a run-down inner city pocket, here in Bristol. It's thing is craft ales and a massive collection of vinyl, from a wide variety of sources. Thus, we're as likely to hear some mid '60s ska as modern indie, like the Caezers. Anyway, this stuff came on the speakers and I says, "Sounds like Richard Thompson, but I don't recognise the song..." And the bar maid go like, "That's 'cos it's off of a record he did with Fred Frith - it's fairly rare." So I had another beer.
Oh and I should of said you can take your bike in & prop it up next to the Gents...

This was the last of their albums that I discovered, but what a find.
No wonder they made such an impact. For a debut album it’s stunning.
The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.

Nadia Kossinsakia with Joscho Stephan:-

The Rain:- https://youtu.be/cSymAa0xIc8?si=0bsOAjVAcPuS2fpS

Tico Tico No Fuba :- https://youtu.be/P7S80b3mRnU?si=jCoYDn-o9mYWg5vo

Incredible!

I've been listening to Stephan and other Gypsy Jazz music for a few years but was unaware of Kossingskia until today, she's an unbelievably good guitarist!

My youngest son has just passed his grade 5 violin and Tico Tico No Fuba was one of the pieces he picked from the Trinity exam list. That's a great version there.
