High Racer

Post by Stradageek »

Hi All and best wishes for the New Year

My son is now fully converted to the 'dark side' and has fallen in love with my Bacchetta Highracer. Sadly it remains my favourite steed (so he can't have it :D) and there would appear to no UK based Bacchetta dealer.

Some bikes have come up on Ebay, a Pelso Brevet, a Performer Saki and a first generation Corsa but test rides and/or shipping are an issue as we are in deepest darkest Devon.

We are still pursuing these options but (just on the off-chance) I thought I'd ask if anyone within striking distance of Exeter has a highracer they are prepared to part with?

Many thanks

Banchetta giro going on the yacf fs page for £400.
Which is a steal.

Bhpc also has a pelso.and a metabike, but £££er
If I had a baby elephant, I would put it on a recumbent trike so that it would become invisible.

Thanks belgiangoth

We managed to purchase a Giro from a BHPVC member and my son is very happy.

However, I'm so jealous of my son's purchase that I will definitely look into your suggestion once I've registered with yacf

Well after a fairly long absence from recumbents my heart overruled my head and the Pelso that was on eBay is now in my garage being fettled into an audax machine 😀 I've been doing a lot of cycling in the past 2 years but hardly any reclined miles. Finally starting to get some progress with the foot pain issue that was keeping me on the wedgie bikes and am starting to train on the recumbent again.

I'm hoping the Pelso will be a nice easy going mile eater for long rides that will be more comfortable and user friendly then the M5 it has replaced. I've only had it round the block a few times so far due to the cold and salty roads but it feels good so far.

I was tempted by that Pelso, especially as the guy who sold me (and raced) the Giro had moved onto a Pelso and was fitting all manner of aero upgrades.

By all accounts the Pelso is a much easier ride than the M5, enjoy :D

Yes it's an easier bike all round. A bit slower though. I had one on loan for a few weeks back in 2018 so there were no major surprises. The front wheel has been rebuilt to a 559 but I got the original rim as part of the sale and will rebuild it back to 700c. Currently I've nicked the front wheel off my wife's Cannondale Synapse just to get it dialled in. So not as fast as the M5 but also a long list of things that are improved- no leg rubbing on the frame, no convoluted chain management, more comfort, lower bb/seat delta and can take much wider tyres. So a good audax bike I think.

Good to hear you are getting back into 'bents. Becky reported the Pelso had a frame that flexed when she sat on it, and she thought it was designed that way to provide comfort. I'll be interested to hear what you make of it.

Yes it flexes a bit. I reviewed it for David at Laid back bikes in 2018. I'm not looking for out and out speed - the M5 was stiff as a board and it became quite jarring to ride on rough roads. This is going to be a bike for audax, it'll be plenty fast enough for that. All comfort available will be greatly appreciated 😀

Welcome back!
Will the new bike appear on your website?

Thanks - I have let a lot of things go over the past year that were extraneous, the website was one of those things. As one rider says on BROL, 'Riding more, blogging less' 😀
