Recording rides for social media - advice needed

Post by miller »

Looking for advice on something a bit different. I'm looking to record some of my rides and upcoming competitions (triathlon and duathlon) for my you tube channel. What do you guys think is the best camera to record rides??? I currently have a go pro 12, however, it obviously can only record forward or back and also the pole isn't long enough to get a decent view of the rider. I am looking at potential poles to resolve this. However, i see the 360 insta cameras now, and I'm thinking are these potentially better to record a ride as they give a bigger field of view??? I don't know this as fact as I don't have one. Can anyone offer their thoughts and opinions and recoding rides for social media. Thanks.

I would check the rules carefully for that during competition; most organisations don't allow on-bike cameras in races and they certainly won't allow you to swim or run with a camera on the end of a selfie stick or one of those follow-me drone cameras!

There are exceptions - you've probably seen on TV on-bike footage from UCI Track races and some World Tour road events but that's not "individual riders" deciding to strap a camera on, it's all equipment owned and managed by the organisers (who also own the footage).

Thanks for this, I'll be honest I didn't think to check that. I obviously won't be recording the swim, but had planned recording some of the run and bike. I'll check. I know if seen videos from previous years on you tube, but still a good idea to check.

British Cycling now seem to allow you to have a Go- Pro mounted on the front of your bike, just a small Go Pro or similar action cams, not one of those sticky out 360 jobs. . I’ve watched a few videos on YouTube of people posting race footage. I’m not sure whether Triathlon will allow it. You could possibly have 2 cameras, one pointing forward and the other pointing at you.
