Not made in the USA

Post by Mtb tourer »

Lots of cycling gear off the buying list until Trump is dethroned. Last real made in the states was a Cannondale 26 headshok tourer. Bought a new Trek Checkpoint 2 weeks age, was a warrantry replacement frame that the LBS was selling . Half price as the cyclist wanted to upgrade to a Checkmate, good that my money stayed in the UK.
Cancelled my Strava premium, one problem is Sram they bought out the Time pedal business. It's Aisa or European made now. The Trek was made in Malaysia,l et's see how American labour rates push up the made in the USA prices .

This is all Britain's fault, if George III hadn't messed up,
we still be part of the Empire.

It was all about timing , check the history books.
The empire had more urgent issues in Europe. Nothing to do with tea tax .
And today America is trying it on with tax, let's hope it backfires.

It was all about the tea tax, it was the proverbial straw that broke the American colonist's camels back.

Power to your wallet Sir!
(my only regret is having to postpone my Chris King bling purchase - he seems like a top guy.)

We end up buying from who we can and as such that’s sometimes either purchasing from countries we’d prefer not to support or dealing with people who we’d prefer not to deal with. I dislike buying Chinese made goods but that’s sometimes all I can either find or feel able to afford, and USA goods have always been dear in the UK and now I’ve another reason not to buy them. As a rule of thumb or preference I seek UK and EU manufactured goods and would encourage others to do the same.

The USA is in this position of turmoil because of Trump and because it’s been living off of the strength of the dollar to import relatively cheap goods and ignore its own working (sub) class. Unfortunately large parts of the Western World will now have to pay for USA centred greed which has seem the growth of the rust belt and the resulting social consequences. In the way that justice seems to go the poor will again suffer whilst the rich in the USA get tax cuts funded by import duties.
Don’t fret, it’s OK to: ride a simple old bike; ride slowly, walk, rest and admire the view; ride off-road; ride in your raincoat; ride by yourself; ride in the dark; and ride one hundred yards or one hundred miles. Your bike and your choices to suit you.

If USA is entering a trade war on lots of fronts and putting tariffs on goods from left, right and centre, those countries will put tariffs on US goods. I know the US economy is big and powerful, but how will it fare if US goods are facing high tariffs in multiple advanced economies? And at the same time US imports are becoming more expensive? I'm not sure Trump has thought this through.

Moving off topic, I picked up a pack of radishes in a supermarket yesterday and rapidly put it back on the shelf. Israeli.

I would readily buy anything made or grown in Israel, I am major supporter of that country and its people.

That's nice... in other news, Israel kills aid workers... again.. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c20d4ylyx57o
There are lots of good reasons not to be financially supporting USA at the moment.. one of them being unwavering support for a country which looks very much like it's committing acts of genocide...
Israel has managed to kill an awful lot of non combatants... which does make one ask if they really have a professional army or just alot of armed thugs...
..if someone could let me know if I'm being too offensive, it would be appreciated, otherwise they might run off and tell mummy... whatever that means.

..I have nothing again religion.... I think the fact that it cements different generations together, and the different celebrations throughout the year is a good thing...
...where I have an issue is when one religion says 'we're God's chosen people' as if to justify the removal of women's rights or the extermination of another religion or to get angry about the LGBQ movement. Its at that point the rest of the world should say 'stop being silly, God is a narrative construct, because we didn't under evolution or physics', or at least have motorhead's God was never on your side, played at them (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=o1hSSuc42P8) anyone actually believing that being part of a religious movement gives them more rights than others should be locked away for being deluded...or in extreme cases psychotic...

Perhaps the best and quickest way to achieve peace is to denounce all organised religions, but keep the yearly celebrations...

..incidently... the teaching of creationism in America schools as a viable alternative to evolution is perhaps the second reason why we shouldn't be financially supporting America...
.its like teaching kids to be dumb from a very early age...

..sorry I wasn't fast enough to read it.. but it was probably heartfelt, and from your point of view of very sincere. There is nothing wrong with the idea of Make American Great Again... every country should be attempting strive forward... even little random countries like Britain.
..but it doesn't start with tariffs or demanding that other functioning independent countries become a 51st state or a 52 state or whatever... it starts in schools, it starts with financially supporting public education, and it starts with teaching kids stuff like science, technology, engineering and maths ..
Right now Chinese children are being taught this stuff.. its hard stuff to learn and not very fun, in some cases.. But its why they've managed to bring Ai out earlier than other countries, and its probably going to be the reason why they're going to develop better ways of generating electricity before the rest of the world, too... its why perhaps America is more scared of China than it is of Russia..
..teaching stuff like creationism in schools outside of religious studies is like shooting your athletes in the feet with a shotgun loaded with rocks salt cartridges, before the start of the race...
Making America Great Again starts with investment in the next generation, bringing forward their skills, developing talents as well as their own hopes and aspirations... not burdening them with beliefs which hold them back..
