There are quite a few people comparing Trumponomic with Trussonomics with its simplicity, its refusal to soften things to keep market confidence and its promoter's tendency to "double down" when challenged.

Re: Trump
There are also people suggesting that he and his close associates don’t care too much about crashing the US economy, because that allows them to buy-up assets at fire sale prices, giving them a tighter stranglehold on tgat economy in the longer term, and allowing them to profit if they wish when prices rise again, which they do the moment he softens his stance
Re: Trump
Exactly what I've been thinking, the boom/bust economy is staged for the rich by the rich for themselves to accumulate more wealth/power.Nearholmer wrote: ↑11 Mar 2025, 6:04pm There are also people suggesting that he and his close associates don’t care too much about crashing the US economy, because that allows them to buy-up assets at fire sale prices, giving them a tighter stranglehold on tgat economy in the longer term, and allowing them to profit if they wish when prices rise again, which they do the moment he softens his stance

Re: Trump
And we should never have left the EU.
Is Trump set to invade Canada after attempting to destabilise it's economy?
Malcom Nance thinks so and a lot more besides:- https://youtu.be/ya3Q0-VCk1Q?si=pyM4nvsVgJ5ZPO84

Re: Trump
Democracy doesn't necessarily suddenly die, often (like under Putin) it slowly fades away.
But today could be a landmark in the ongoing death throes of US democracy. The administration has openly refused to obey a court order.

If courts have no authority, any government is simply a dictatorship. No law, no justice, no freedom.
That seems to be where America is tonight.

Re: Trump
I suppose it'll make the annexation of Canada even more bizarre!
"The Daily Telegraph reports that President Trump has suggested he could sign up the US as an associate member of the Commonwealth, because of his love for the King. The paper says he backed the idea on social media, in response to claims that Buckingham Palace could make him a "secret offer" during his second state visit to the UK. It adds it is "not known" whether the palace or the government have been involved in any such discussions, with plans for the trip still being finalised...." (BBC News)

Re: Trump
You sure?
Noting that this polling was *before* the Trump evisceration of the transatlantic alliance, most centre and right folk already wanted a closer EU relationship.
It would be very surprising if that hadn't been significantly accentuated by subsequent events.
